Leading Lines

Our eyes are naturally drawn to follow lines. So when you are thinking about taking a picture of a road, think about how the lines of the road is leading the way we view the picture. This type of composition is one of the most overlooked tools available.

When your eyes follow a line you can ‘pull’ a viewer into the photo, towards the subject or on a journey through your image.

There are a lot of different types of leading lines you can follow. Think about straight, diagonal, curved, covering (when lines meet at a focus point) and intersecting lines (when lines are crossing each other).
